Yuqiu Wang is a UK-based Chinese artist whose work explores intergenerational trauma, care, and the emotional landscapes of women’s lives.

Through knitting, performance, and textile-based storytelling, she reflects on her relationship with her mother and the invisible labour of middle-aged women often overlooked in both domestic and public spheres.

I spontaneously ‘wove’ these physical and emotional traumas into the fabric. In that moment, it felt as if I was ‘weaving’ my mother bit by bit. During this process, I felt that she no longer frightened me as she used to. Although we don't have much close contact in our daily lives, and I'm not the type of daughter who likes to whine, in the process of knitting, I felt as if I could gently "touch" her.

The fabric's structure, pieced together from individual sections, symbolises to me physical cysts or mental ailments. The knitting process was incredibly slow, each piece taking a considerable amount of time. But it was precisely this quiet, lengthy, repetitive labour that naturally immersed me in a state of contemplation, bringing healing.
